I am pained by every story of a Humpback Whale entangled by fishing gear and, like all, remain in horror at the tragedy of our Gulf of Mexico, but here is the story that should be headlines around the world, or at least any coastal community (that is, some 60% of the world's population living on or near a coast).
What does it mean when the single largest source of life on the planet - phytoplankton in the ocean - is decreasing in productivity about 1% per year? It means it's time to have a clean technology revolution instead of stupid partisan bickering and deeply cowardly politics in the US senate. Why won't the USA pass meaningful climate legislation? Deeply unAmerican cowardice, I say.
